My family and I moved to Dayton in 2003. In 2004, I joined Dayton ISD as a seventh grade English teacher at Woodrow Wilson Junior High. While at the junior high, I served as English department head and UIL editorial writing coach before moving up to Dayton High School last year to teach freshman English. This will be my 20th year of teaching and my 13th year in the district.
After receiving my undergraduate degree in Literature, I returned to Tarkington Independent School District to begin my teaching career. My former high school English teacher (who had become the middle school principal) hired me to teach sixth grade language arts. During my six years at Tarkington Middle School, I taught English (grades 6-8), coached cheerleading, sponsored UIL events, led Student Council, and served as English department head.
Dayton has been my home for more than fifteen years. I’m married to a coach, and we are the proud parents of a 2017 DHS graduate. I love football, reading, and traveling.
On the weekends you can usually find me at a football game. I’m a proud supporter of Bronco football on Friday nights, and on Saturdays my family loves attending local college football games. We love watching Sam Houston, Lamar, and University of Houston games. When I am not teaching, I love to travel and read. I especially love to travel to places I've read about! I enjoy being outside, preferrably near water or in the mountains. Thailand is my dream destination, as it includes both mountains and breathtaking beaches. My favorite TV shows are Criminal Minds and Chopped.
