Graduation Dress Code

 
LADIES:
  • Dress or skirt – The bottom hem may NOT be longer than the graduation gown or shorter than 2 inches above the knee.
    • No strapless tops or dresses.
  • Capri pants or long pants
    • No shorts
    • No jeans
  • Dress or casual shoes
    • No boots with skirts
    • No athletic shoes
    • No spiked or pointy heels, as they are a tripping/falling hazard.
  • Hair color of unnatural colors, as outlined in the DISD handbook, is NOT permitted.
  • Earrings are the ONLY visible piercings/facial jewelry that are allowed to be worn at graduation – THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS
GENTLEMEN:
  • Dark pants/slacks, khaki pants, or starched dark jeans
    • No shorts
  • White dress shirt with a collar and tie
  • Dark dress shoes, dark casual shoes, or dark boots with dark colored socks
    • No athletic shoes or sandals
    • No white/athletic socks (Except under boots)
  • Facial hair is permitted as long as it remains clean and neatly groomed to a length no longer than ¼ inch. Beards and goatees must not extend in length past the chin or onto the neckline; sideburns must not exceed the bottom of the earlobe and must be trimmed in a straight line without flares at the bottom.
  • Hair must be well-groomed, neatly trimmed, and worn in a style above the eyes.
  • Hair color (including facial hair) of unnatural colors as outlined in the DISD handbook is NOT permitted.
  • Earrings are the ONLY visible piercings/facial jewelry that are allowed to be worn at graduation – THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS
 
Cap and Gown:
  • The gown needs to be free of wrinkles and neat
  • The cap is worn with the top as flat as possible (parallel to the floor) - Not at an angle.
  • The tassel is worn on the right side of the head.   
 
Reminders
  • If you haven't already, be sure to remove the gown from the plastic wrapper and hang it up as soon as possible. (Do not iron the gown.)
  • Participation in graduation exercises is a privilege, not a right, and students who do not comply with dress, grooming, and conduct standards for the rehearsal and ceremony will be removed from the ceremony.
  • Graduates may not possess (will be checked for) items such as beach balls, bubbles, noise makers, etc. that could disrupt the ceremony. Any such items will be confiscated.
  • Caps and/or gowns may NOT be decorated in any way. Do not attach anything to the cap.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Graduates must be dressed for graduation inside the Dayton High School Gym Lobby by 11:00 AM.  Once inside, they cannot exit until we load the buses for Beaumont.  NO visitors may enter the building. (All students must ride the bus to graduation)
  • Graduation begins at 3:00 PM at the Neches Federal Credit Union Arena in the Montagne Center at Lamar University in Beaumont.  Graduation is expected to last approximately 2.5 hours.
  • Doors will open for admission to the Neches Arena at 2:00 PM
  • There is no reserved seating; all seating is first come, first served. There is no limit on the number of guests who may attend graduation.
  • Please be respectful of others and the formal nature of the Graduation Ceremony.
  • Ensure your graduate knows where to meet you outside after the ceremony for their ride home.
Items Prohibited by the Neches Arena include:
  • Noise makers of any kind, including Air Horns
  • No Signs, Banners, or Balloons
  • No Concealed Weapons
  • No Confetti or Glitter
